Mentoring Initiative

Empowering Black Boys Through Mentorship

This mentoring initiative serves at-risk Black boys in grades K–6 in inner-city and low-income communities, providing them with consistent, caring relationships and positive role models. The program combines weekly mentoring, academic support, and social-emotional skill building to help boys feel seen, supported, and capable of success.

Our mentors commit to at least one year of service, offering roughly two hours of support each week through a blend of tele-mentoring, group mentoring, and in-person connection. Mentors are organized into cohorts (chapters) rooted in local schools, community centers, and faith-based organizations, creating a strong network around each child.

Every mentor completes comprehensive training that covers legal responsibilities when working with minors, mandated reporting, professional boundaries, mentoring best practices, and effective communication with parents and guardians. Careful screening, including background checks, helps ensure a safe, nurturing environment.

Together, this program builds confidence, connection, and hope for Black boys who deserve every opportunity to thrive.
